About Hacking the Camino
We started Hacking the Camino to document our first Camino in 2018. It was a means of recording our journey before, during and after the Camino. It helped us to communicate with friends and family and it allowed us to record memories along the way. As memories fade, it has been a great way to settle those “discussions” of where we were when a specific event happened or a new friend joined our group.
In 2018, we thought that our next Camino would be just around the corner. 2019 was dedicated to another bucket list item: hiking the West Coast Trail of Vancouver Island (Think shorter, tougher, more ladders, and more bears). 2020 would be “the year” for our next Camino. A global pandemic put those plans on hold. In 2020 and 2021 our boots and poles were a way of keeping us sane in the increasingly crazy world. With the lifting of restrictions, we undertook the Camino del Norte in 2022. Our third Camino would be a “Camino light,” Porto to Santiago on the Caminho Português da Costa, the coastal route of the Camino Portuguese.
